My name is Meagan Milligan. I'm a Children's Yoga Teacher. One of society’s most important responsibilities is to equip children with the skills needed to embrace self-regulation, and in turn, their truest self. Developing the inner strength to live authentically is an intentional and everlasting practice for all of us. Children’s Yoga creates a trusted, sensory-based environment that invites children to foster creative play & social connection, learn how to cope with stress, and utilize the opportunity to make decisions that direct their own actions, with gentle guidance. Through practically applying these executive function skills, children can transform “balancing” in to stable building blocks for a healthier mind, body, spirit, and future!
Benefits of Yoga for Children
Working Memory
Children's yoga exercises the working mind. Their memories will be playfully challenged, enabling attention spans to stretch. Yoga moves children through imaginative scenarios that will aid in concept formation, holding new information in place, and connecting it to what is already in the "memory bank".
Flexible Thinking
Yoga encourages kids to establish a connection between the mind & body. A child's ability to finish one task and shift to the next will strengthen. Classes welcome children to view the world using an empathetic lens. Understanding different approaches to the same goal will help kids find solutions to new obstacles, grow, and ease into going with the flow.
Self-Control
Intentional bodily movement combined with the practice of mindfulness can significantly impact the direction of a child's decision-making. If children feel anxious, depressed, or struggle with ADD/ADHD, yoga empowers them to prioritize choosing “the pause” instead of an impulsive action or response. This will create a more delightful outcome, and boost their self-esteem.
